Cyno-oh Baby!

She may be ugly kid, but she's got it where it counts.  I made a lot of "special modifications" to her myself.

A while back Kirith Kodachi asked for some wormhole fits for the new issue of EON magazine.  I submitted 3 fits that I had lying about with explanations.  He seemed impressed, but due to space concerns he only picked one.  For those of you that have the magazine, you know that my overpowered Tengu fit was the one he picked for EON.   If you don't, I suggested you pick it up.  There is some pretty good wormhole information in there, especially for those of you new to wormholes.

One of the fits he didn't list was my (as he described it) hit-and-run Cynabal.  As one of the fastest (if not the fastest) cruiser hulls in the game, the Cynabal has the advantage of range dictation.  This is similar to the Dramiel, although the Cynabal has a bit more HP for buffer in case a mistake is made.  With its damage and falloff bonus to autocannons, the Cynabal can spit out some impressive damage at impressive range.  Combined with its speed, the Cynabal is virtually unmatched among cruiser hulls.  However, it's an advantage you have to pay for, as the Cynabal clocks in as the most expensive T1 cruiser hull you can fly.

So first of all, the fit:

Cynabal, base model

4x 425mm Autocannon II
Medium Energy Neutralizer II

Warp Disruptor II
2x Large Shield Extender II
10mn Afterburner II
10mn Microwarpdrive II

2x Tracking Enhancer II
2x Gyrostabilizer II
1x Damage Control

1x Medium Projectile Burst Aerator I
1x Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
1x Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

5x Warrior II
5x Hornet EC-300

I get that is pretty basic.  Stay with me.  The base configuration allows for an impressive over 900 m/s under afterburner and almost 2500 m/s under MWD power.  The guns are good, with the damage bonus Republic Fleet EMP/Fusion/Phased Plasma hit for a smooth 546 DPS at a nice 1.9km optimal and 29.5km falloff.  Barrage is even better for range, bumping that 3.8km optimal and 44.2 falloff.  Damage isn't bad either.  Barrage clocks in a 451 DPS, pretty much making it the default ammo of choice.  This makes the Cynabal excellent for kiting as well as up close and personal damage races.  Rounding out the high slots is a medium neut.  The neut is mainly there to keep interceptors off your back and is best used in spurts.

The Cynabal has an effective HP of just over 30k.  Not great, but good enough to get the job done, considering its hit-and-run nature.  The resists are about what you would expect out of a T1 ship, and the EM rig helps fill the resist hole.  I prefer a damage control for just a little extra insurance, but a nano could easily be swapped in if that's your style of flying.

As far as drones go, the Cynabal actually has the bandwidth and space to roll a flight of medium drones.  And while this is good if you are hunting big game like cruiser and above, it doesn't really help you with smaller, faster ships.  Since this ship lacks a web, I chose to toss a flight of Warriors for their uncanny ability to keep up and hit anything not named Dramiel and a flight of ECM drones.  The ECM drones are there for either getting a critical jam on your opponent or just using them to jam up the ship with the point on you so you can bail.

Of course, this ship costs over a hundred million isk.  And a T2 fitting just seems silly on something that expensive.  So if you are going to pop for the Cynabal, might as well go big for some faction mods that will really give this sucker punch.  After all, what is a pimped out ride without some sweet 22's?

My first suggestion for pimping the ride would be a point upgrade.  The T2 Warp disruptor is good, but a Domination Warp Disruptor is better.  The Domination allows a point of 30km, and 36 km when overheated.  This is pretty good on a ship that has the range this Cynabal can bring to a fight, a range that is longer then most T1 cruisers.  Be warned, however, that Domination point is expensive.

Next would be damage.  Twin Republic Fleet Gyrostabiliers won't cost you as much as one Domination Gyro, and it will increase the damage under Barrage by 17 DPS.  You can squeeze a bit more DPS if you shoehorn on a T2 burst damage rig, but to do so would have you drop either the EM plug or the extra shield HP.  I'm not a fan of either, but being your ship, its your call.

Finally you could pop for a Republic Fleet MWD.  While it won't increase your speed any, it will serve to lower the cap cost allowing you to run the MWD for a full minute longer then you could with the T2 variety. In addition, the cap negative isn't as bad using a the RF MWD, so as a side bonus you can get a couple more reps with the medium neut if needed.

So the fit becomes:

Cynabal, pimp my ride

4x 425mm Autocannon II
Medium Energy Neutralizer II

Domination Warp Disruptor
2x Large Shield Extender II
10mn Afterburner II
Republic Fleet 10mn Microwarpdrive

2x Tracking Enhancer II
2x Republic Fleet Gyrostabilizer
1x Damage Control

1x Medium Projectile Burst Aerator I
1x Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
1x Medium Core Defense Field Extender I

5x Warrior II
5x Hornet EC-300

Flying this ship is like engaging in a deadly dance.  Start from the outside, feel your opponent out, and once you got him on the ropes close in for the kill (if needed).  With the duel prop this ship can pretty much dictate range on anything its size or larger, so determining how the opponent is fit and if he has backup is the main objective in the opening salvos.

Again, if PVPing on a budget I would almost universally recommend any cookie-cutter hurricane fit as it has slightly more EHP and does about the same damage  at the cost of being flying like a brick compared to this thing.  But if you got money to burn, and like bling-y rims, then this is your ship.

The Cynabal - The Cadillac of cruisers.

  1. Why did you pimp the MWD instead of the AB? I fly mostly the same fit in my Cyna as well, minus the pimp MWD and + the pimp AB for higher speeds under AB. Other than that mostly cosmetic differences.

IE, best named/faction Neut, nano in the low, t2 thermal/EM and t1 poly in the rig slots

  2. Like I said in the article, the pimped MWD has less of a Cap Penalty compared to the T2 version which allows you to burn it longer or use the Neut longer.

I even mentioned it wasn't something I'd wholeheartedly recommend but if you happen to have one lying about.... hell... more cap is always useful.
